Certificate of Completion Clark Construction Strategic Partnership Program

Pat McMurray Clark Construction Strategic Partnership Program Certificate of Completion 7.13.21
Being a small to medium sized business has its challenges, especially when competing against large organizations. Fortunately, certain companies recognize this and see the value in working with and even training companies like T&R Communications. Clark Construction is one of those companies.

I recently completed Clark’s Strategic Partnership Program “SPP” training and very impressed with the quality curriculum that they put together. The combined effort was obvious with contributions from Project Managers, Buyers, Lawyers, Politicians and even high-level Clark Executives.

“Our commitment to small businesses extends beyond any contracting goal. For more than a decade, Clark has invested in the growth and development of small businesses nationwide through our Strategic Partnership Program – an executive education course designed to give small business owners a solid foundation for smart, sustainable growth. Since its inception, nearly 1,200 entrepreneurs and business leaders have completed the program nationwide, opening the doors to greater economic opportunity while strengthening our industry and communities.” – Clark Construction

The Strategic Partnership Program was a 32 week, executive MBA-style course done completely virtual due to COVID restrictions. Each class started promptly at 5PM every Tuesday evening and generally ran until 8PM. The topics taught were varied, many of them linking to previous discussions and all very interesting. The aspect that I really enjoyed was to hear what the General Contractor is expecting (the look behind the curtain). While I have been doing ICT for the past 37 years, I still learned a tremendous amount! I only wish this exceptional program was available earlier in my career.

The final exam which they call the “Capstone Project” was extremely challenging because the project response was for division 9 (Finishes) and not ICT. They divided the class into 4 teams, requiring each team to fabricate a fictitious company, calculate the costs of doing business and put together a formal presentation for the Clark Construction decision makers. Another challenge was to present entirely virtual with all team members participating. My team was terrific with members having strengths in varying aspects of construction and contracting. We did not win the project but one of our team members was awarded “Most Convincing”.

Clark Construction is currently accepting applications for the 2021/2022 SPP course. It is a big commitment of time and effort but is well worth the investment. This program was free, just your time! Clark clearly invests heavily into the program with content, effort, time and their payoff is a stronger construction industry.
